About Brixham
Brixham is a historic fishing port with a long and rich history. Known as "The Mother of Trawling", Brixham remains one of the UK's busiest fishing ports. Modern beam trawlers land their catch at the "new" Fish Market opened in the 1970's and currently being redeveloped into a new, ultra modern centre for the fishing industry.
Brixham is surrounded by stunning landscapes with many vantage points offering spectacular panoramic views of Torbay. Berry Head National Nature Reserve is Torbay's most important wildlife site and the views are simply breathtaking. Sitting atop the 200 feet high cliffs is a fortress constructed in Napoleonic times, but earlier settlements on the site date back to the early Iron Age.
Brixham's picturesque harbour is the focal point of the town, overlooked by pretty colour-washed cottages, it is alive with the sounds, smells and tastes of the fishing industry. Visitors can stroll around the harbour, look at paintings by local artists, sit at open air cafes listening to local brass bands playing or visit a local market on Saturday's in summer.

There are plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants and no end of traditional pubs, plus alleys and narrow streets to explore. A replica of Sir Francis Drake's famous Golden Hind dominates the Inner Harbour and nearby on the Quay is a statue of William of Orange, erected in 1889 to commemorate the landing of William of Orange in 1688. You can enjoy boat trips around Tor Bay or to the nearby River Dart, or just relax on one of Brixham's many beaches such as Breakwater Beach, Fishcombe or Shoalstone with its famous outdoor salt water swimming pool.

Brixham is the perfect holiday spot for those that wish to get away from it all and take things easy in charming and picturesque surroundings but don't take our word for it, come and see for yourself.
